A Garden for Glo

Artist Statement
I was pretty meticulous about getting “perfect” flowers and leaves quilted. But then I stepped back and thought again about layers and how every garden has some blossoms fading away while others thrive, so decided that, in order to be more realistic, my garden should have a dying flower, too.

A garden at the height of summer is full of pretty flowers that bloom and thrive because those that came before fade away and die, returning their strength to the soil to keep the cycle going.

Techniques & Materials
The quilt is machine pieced of commercial fabrics. I machine quilted free hand various flowers and leaf patterns – and then a friend suggested using beads to bring out parts of the quilt – so now the daisies have beaded centers.
