Artist Statement
Día de los Muertos honors loved ones who have passed. The colors purple
and marigold orange attracting the souls of the dead and the paper picado
skeleton design symbolizes death and rebirth.
Techniques & Materials
My design was taken from a papel picado I purchased in the market in Mexico.
I transferred the design to Wonderunder and hand-cut the design out with an
Exacto knife (12 hours). I then bonded the yellow-orange fabric to the purple
background and freeform quilted the raw edges. The binding is piping. There
are bead accents.
