(CNN) – Ohio police say they are disturbed after two sewing needles are found in halloween candy.

The candy was tampered with after a sleight of hand across town on Saturday night, Fostoria police said in a statement on Sunday.

“Although we are only aware of 2 candies involved, we take this seriously and are appalled that someone is to the point of wanting to hurt the children in our community,” said Chief Keith Loreno.

Police said it was unclear which street the child got the candy on, but they are warning everyone to check their child’s bags.

A local hospital, the ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital, has offered to provide x-rays of all sweets handed out during the event, using a portable x-ray machine, from Monday, police said.

In footage of the tainted candy shared by police, part of a Kit Kat bar is broken, revealing a needle inside. Another image shows a bag of Sour Patch Kids with a small hole in the side.

Fostoria police called the find “disturbing” in a Facebook post, and they are looking for the responsible.

Even though events like this are frightening, University of Delaware professor Joel Best, who has been tracking fake Halloween candy since 1958, told CNN it’s not common.

“I can’t find any evidence that a child has ever been killed or seriously injured by a contaminated treat picked up during a sleight of hand,” Best said.

“Although reports of tainted treats do occur, I know of only two efforts to try to investigate the reports of tainted treats; both concluded that most were hoaxes.”

A 15-year-old boy who inserted a tied USB cable into his penis had to be operated on after it got stuck inside him.

The unidentified teenager, from London, told doctors he inserted the cable to “measure the length of his penis”.

But his experience took a turn for the worse when the already knotted cable got stuck with both ends of the USB sticking out of his limb.

The boy made several attempts to remove it himself, but this caused him to urinate a large amount of blood, prompting his family to take him to A&E.

The x-ray of the tied USB cable after it got stuck inside the boy’s body. The teen inserted it into his penis during a sexual experience that went awry. After repeated attempts to remove the object by itself and by medical professionals failed, an x-ray was ordered to determine the exact size and location of the object before surgery.

Hospital staff also failed to remove the cable using special tools due to the position of the knot, doctors detailed in the newspaper. Urology case reports.

The boy was rushed to University College Hospital in London for further treatment.

He requested to be examined in his mother’s absence and confessed to staff that he inserted the cable to measure his penis out of sexual curiosity.

After an x-ray revealed the exact size and positions of the knot, the teenager was sent for surgery.

In an effort to remove the cable, surgeons cut lengthwise his bulbospongiosis muscle, an area between the genitals and the anus.

Doctors managed to extract the knot through the incision and then separate it from the rest of the cable.

After the knot was removed, the two remaining pieces of the cable were pulled out of the opening in his penis.

There were no complications in his recovery and he was released from the hospital the next day.

Follow-up scans two weeks after the operation revealed no lasting damage, but doctors noted the boy would need continued monitoring in the future.

Although claiming that such cases are rare, doctors said previous cases have shown that a wide variety of objects have been inserted into the opening of the penises in the same manner.

Clio Kennedy and the other doctors who treated the boy cited needles, pins, wire, and pistachio shells as examples.

The most common reasons for doing so are sexual curiosity, practicing sex after poisoning, and mental disorders, doctors noted.

Inserting objects into the opening of the penis for sexual pleasure is known as probing, which comes with a number of risks.

If an object gets stuck inside the penis, it can cause several potential problems.

These can range from a burning sensation after urinating, large amounts of blood in the urine, an inability to urinate and painful erections.

More serious complications, such as the bladder, a hole appearing in the bladder, and scarring of the tube that carries urine out of the body may require major reconstructive procedures.

Doctors noted that a detailed patient history on the inserted object and the method of doing so is essential for the investigation of healthcare professionals.

This highlighted the need to discuss the problem with patients in an “encouraging, non-judgmental manner,” as patients may feel “uncomfortable” providing all of the relevant information, the doctors said.

Experts said he may have even swallowed it unknowingly when he was a child.

Terry, 54, said: “My first thought was that one time maybe I got so drunk I rolled over or something!”

“Even then, I don’t know how it would reach my liver, but somehow it does.”

It was discovered in 2019 when he went to the hospital with a suspicion of pancreatitis. Doctors rechecked and it appeared in scans dating back to 2006.

Terry, from Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, said: “I couldn’t believe it when I saw it. I didn’t know it was there. “

He says he is in pain now and wants to remove the 5.7cm needle.

But doctors believe the discomfort may be psychological because he now knows he’s there. And they say an operation would be risky.

Expert Dr Raghib Ali said: “Small foreign objects can be absorbed in the liver through the intestine.

“They can pass through the stomach and intestine and lodge in the liver, but this is extremely unusual as they normally pass out from behind.

“The liver will have isolated this needle, so it won’t cause damage. And since the liver contains so many blood vessels, cutting it can be far more dangerous than leaving it there.

Curiosity nearly claimed the life of playful Sox, an adorable kitten from Hanover Park, when he accidentally swallowed a sharp sewing needle and thread on Monday, March 22.

You might think this is a very unusual case, but you would be wrong. There are two potentially dangerous foreign objects that cats like to play with and sometimes end up swallowing (earplugs and needles).

Cats seem to be drawn to the smell of our ear wax and would love to chew on thin metal objects that should never be lying around.

Last night, much to everyone’s relief, Sox managed to get the needle and thread through without further injuring himself. The fact that the thread untangled from her intestines and the sharp needle passed through her tiny body without causing any intestinal lacerations makes her a very lucky cat!

Since the start of national lockdown, there has been a marked increase in the number of home businesses. Spider webs were dusted off unused sewing machines and rusty tools were replaced with shiny new equipment as many desperate South Africans turned their hobbies into income generators.

Dining tables became work benches and garages quickly turned into workshops in many cases without due regard for health and safety regulations.

Our instinctively curious pets took a keen interest in our new work-from-home lifestyle and thoroughly tested, tasted, and played with much of what we left lying around.

This may explain why we have noticed an increase in the number of patients admitted for ingestion and poisoning of potentially fatal linear foreign bodies.

“Over the past several months, we have surgically removed tennis balls, a variety of needles, women’s underwear, socks, honeycombs, bones, cutlery and animal hardware. well cared for and treated an extraordinary number of animals for poisoning and hope this post will motivate everyone to make sure their workspaces are safe, ”said Allan of Animal Welfare Society.

  • The parent said she emailed the retail giant and was waiting for a response

A horrified mother urged parents to check their purchases for hidden dangers after discovering a sewing needle in a Kmart pram toy.

A Cairns mother urged parents to inspect their children’s toys for hidden dangers after finding a sewing needle (pictured) lodged in a pram hanger she bought from Kmart

The Cairns woman bought an Anko-branded stroller hanger from the retail giant for her baby to play with.

But once she had already taken it home, she found a sharp needle lodged in a fabric bird.

“I found this needle in a stroller hanger,” she wrote on Facebook, alongside a photo of the needle.

‘Bub was playing with it and I felt something hard in the bird.

“I thought I didn’t cut the plastic properly, so I waved it around a bit and pulled out this needle.

“Looks like a manufacturer’s mistake with the machine because the needle is broken at the top, but I just wanted to put a post just in case.

“Please check yours if you have one.” “

The worried mother said she contacted Kmart.

A Kmart spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia the incident was under investigation.

“At Kmart, the health and safety of all of our products is our number one priority,” they said.

“We are extremely concerned to learn of this and are in direct contact with the customer to further investigate to understand the source of the identified article. ”

BELFAST – Even in these tough times, entrepreneurs are pushing ahead and making a difference. In Belfast, a few new businesses have opened despite the uncertain retail environment, and Julz Makes is one of them, according to a press release from the Belfast Region Chamber of Commerce.

Occupying the end of the row of Beaver Street courtyard below the Belfast Opera House, the new needlework and needlework craft store seeks to fill a need for sewing and knitting supplies, with Done Roving Yarns based in Maine, and technique lessons while making the most of today’s sewing methods and machines. The store faces the Beaver Street parking lot so customers can be sure they have a spot, the House said.

In-person and ZOOM classes have started at the store. Owner Julie Larrabee is assisted in the store by her mother, Janet McKenney, who also helps with the crafts she makes, such as masks for this COVID period !. Daughter Cassie often helps out, making the business a real family affair.

“I’ve always been a designer, from learning to crochet in grade school, sewing, quilting, machine embroidery, managing and teaching tailoring, to learning basic knitting, spinning and jewelry making, ”said Julie. “Being creative is what has been my escape. After years of working in the corporate world, everything has been put in place to allow him to continue his love of craftsmanship, sharing and teaching with others.

She continued, “I am honored and excited to serve the region and look forward to meeting new faces, making new friends, and stimulating creativity for the fiber arts!”

VICTORIA – An Oak Bay woman sounds the alarm after finding a sewing needle in prepackaged food purchased at a Victoria grocery store.

Josh Stevens says his wife was eating a lunch bought at the Red Barn Market on Oak Bay Avenue on Monday when she felt the needle in her mouth.

Stevens says the needle must have been inside one of the four prepackaged items she was eating; grated carrots, grated beets, mixed greens and bagged bean sprouts.

Oak Bay Deputy Police Chief Ray Bernoties said the incident was reported to police.

“At the moment there is no evidence to support the crime, so we have contacted the store and are contacting the health authority,” Bernoties said. “The store has taken action, including removing the product from the shelves.”

Red Barn co-owner Russ Benwell called the incident “very unfortunate” and added “we cannot confirm that it came from Red Barn or our suppliers, but we are certainly doing our due diligence and have contacted all of our suppliers to see, if by any chance it came through their stream.

Police are not currently investigating the incident.

“If we hear of another event, we will obviously suspect potential criminality but at the moment this has not been established,” said Bernoties.
